Fort Lauderdale's St. Patrick's Day Parade

More than 10,000 people are expected downtown Saturday for the St. Patrick's Day parade as the city continues to celebrate its 100th anniversary.

The parade will start with the landing of an elite parachute commando team from MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa as well as a helicopter flyover by the U.S. Coast Guard. This is the second year that Fort Lauderdale has held a St. Patrick's Day parade, after a 20-year hiatus, and organizers say it will be grander than 2010's.

The parade begins at noon and goes west on Las Olas Boulevard from Southeast Eighth Avenue to Huizenga Plaza at Andrews Avenue. A festival starts at the plaza after the parade and will feature live music and other entertainment, culminating with fireworks at the end of the night.
